Understanding the Grief Experience

When you lose someone – whether through death, addiction, estrangement, or other means – you begin to take an inventory of everything you lost. This may include the person, as well as the hopes, dreams, and expectations you had for the future.

Experiencing grief can be a complicated process, as well as an individualized one. No two people experience distress in the same manner. Often, how a person responds to grief depends on their background, the relationship to the person who was lost, and their beliefs. Some people may immediately fall into a deep depression while someone else may feel numb. There may even be a sense of relief in situations involving prolonged suffering such as with illness or a complicated family relationship. All of these feelings are normal. We can help you through your grief journey.
